  3.   Lets you set various compression options. 
  4.  
  5.   Your choices are not saved when MacCompress quits; however, you can configure MacCompress by editing the 'STR#' resource with ID 0 using ResEdit.
  6.   NOTE THAT I EXPLICITLY PROHIBIT DISTRIBUTION OF ALTERED VERSIONS OF MACCOMPRESS.

  8. This resource has four strings in it, all of which are case-sensitive.  The strings should look like:

  10.     maccompress
  11.     map
  12.     restore
  13.     dosubfolders
  14.     beep when done
  15.     16
  16.     TEXT
  17.     KAHL
  18.  
  19.   Changing the first one to ΓÇ£unixΓÇ¥ will make the default file format be Unix format.

  21.   Changing ΓÇ£mapΓÇ¥ to ΓÇ£nomapΓÇ¥ will default to no mapping between carriage returns and line feeds.

  23. Changing ΓÇ£restoreΓÇ¥ to ΓÇ£no restoreΓÇ¥ will change the default to not restore file creation and modification dates.

  25.   Changing "dosubfolders" to "nodosubfolders" will default to non-recursive compression.

  27. Changing ΓÇ£beep when doneΓÇ¥ to ΓÇ£no beep when doneΓÇ¥ will change the default to not beep when done.

  29.   "16" can be changed to any of {12, 13, 14, 15}; this will be the default number of bits/code upon startup.

  31.   Changing "TEXT" to any other file type will cause decompressed files from Unix machines to have that file type.  If the type is not exactly 4 characters, "TEXT" will be used.

  33.   Changing "KAHL" to any other application type will cause decompressed files from Unix machines to have that file creator.  If the type is not exactly 4 characters, "KAHL" will be used.

  35.   If a bad value is found in any of these fields, the builtΓÇôin setting will be used.
